About this deal

Bernadette Fox is a bit of a mad genius; she’s a talented architect, quirky and opinionated, a misfit among the other moms in her Seattle suburb but best friend to her teenage daughter Bee. She’s also so intensely agoraphobic that she pays a virtual assistant in India to handle even her most basic errands, making an impending family trip to Antarctica only, you know, slightly problematic. When Bernadette suddenly goes missing, Bee sets out to figure out where her mother could have gone. She begins to unravel the complicated workings of her mother’s brilliantly misunderstood mind. Patron Saint of Liars by Ann Patchett I think about following her, but I want to give Zoe a minute alone with her mother. I want them to have the shift and redistribution of their relationship that I never got to have with my own mom, that acrobatic feat of love where everything is turned upside down and yet they are both still able to keep their balance.” References from Genesis, telling Dinah's story spoke so loudly about family relationships, and purpose. Additionally, I reflected on how our relationships with our fathers do have a great deal of impact on our relationship with God. (A blessing for me!)

Some women pray for their daughters to marry good husbands. I pray that my girls will find girlfriends half as loyal and true as the Ya-Yas.” Naomi’s husband Colin passed away suddenly two years ago and life has moved on well for Naomi she has settled into life on her own in her beautiful home by the sea and has her daughters and friends and is very happy. The story centres around Naomi and her two daughters Martha and Willow. Naomi has recently been widowed and is trying to rebuild her life in the little village of Tilsham by the sea.

Breath, Eyes, Memory by Edwidge Danticat

Even though I was raised as a Southern Methodist with a grandfather a minister (so a strict home life) and have always thought of myself as practicing Christian, I have to say Shannon Bream’s newest book is absolutely wonderful!!!! While attempting to be the best mother she can be, Ashley Keller isn't doing so well. She thinks she'll finally be the mother she's always wanted to be after signing up for the Motherhood Better boot camp. Author of The Honest Toddler takes a look at the demands that society places on mothers and gives the idea of being a great mother doesn't require you to be perfect. The Daughter by Lucy Dawson I'm blessed and I couldn't be more grateful. Do you want to know why? Because I'm a mother, but that's only half of it. I'm blessed because, when I need to, I can still just be a daughter. I get the feeling that there is nothing more precious than to have both of these roles, simultaneously.”

Mothers and Daughters: From the Sunday Times bestselling Mothers and Daughters: From the Sunday Times bestselling

A touching and honest portrayal of a mother and her two daughters dealing with that thing called life. Whilst the three women share a very close relationship, there are things that are kept hidden, especially by Naomi. Her daughters would like her to sell up and move to London to be near them. Naomi hasn’t told them about Ellis; a long-lost friend who has recently moved in next door and is fast becoming much more than just a friend.Although I found there was a certain degree of predictability in the storyline in this family saga, I thought that all the characters were well-portrayed and, with the gradual revelation of long-held secrets as the story unfolded, that the changing dynamics of their interactions were psychologically convincing. I was especially impressed by the ways in which the author explored the changes in the relationships between Naomi and her daughters, Martha and Willow, as well as those between the two sisters, as the various crises in the family force them to confront some uncomfortable home truths about the past and to recognise the corrosive, undermining effects of family secrets. Little by little the women use the insights they gain to begin to let go of well-established but dysfunctional patterns of behaviour, to adjust their perceptions of each other and to let go of guilt, anger and misplaced loyalties. At first, Astrid looked up to her intelligent and beautiful mother, but when Ingrid is convicted of murder and sent to prison, everything changes for her. She is placed in foster care, where she must adapt to a new environment and learn new rules at each new residence. Oprah Winfrey chose White Oleanderas as a book club option and narrated the audio CD because of Astrid's commitment to learn to live motherless. No More Perfect Moms: Learn to Love Your Real Life by Jill Savage She searched his face, open and sweet, he has such a sweet face, she thought. She reached up and touched his mouth with one ungloved hand. Nikki Eaton is a reporter for a small town newspaper in her thirties living life on her terms. When her widowed mother, Gwen is killed in a random act of violence, the loss impacts Nikki more than she ever saw coming. The novel chronicles the year following her mother’s death as Nikki grieves this sudden loss and tries to make sense of the tragedy. Mom & Me & Mom by Maya Angelou

Mothers and Daughters: The Guide To Understanding and

I don’t often come across a book in which I find so many of the characters empathetic. At the same time, the situations rang true to life and I could imagine my sisters, or my daughters reacting similarly.

see luxury in a new light

Naomi’s life has revolved around her family. Since her husbands death and her daughters embarking on their own relationships Naomi is at a crossroads where she is finding herself on her own for the first time in years. Martha is hoping Naomi will move closer to her especially as she is planning on having a baby. She tries to enlist Willows help who is not so sure and feels her mum should stay in their family home. There are also sinister doings at the medical lab where Paul works. And the vexing problem of why our heroine is named after the economist who coined the phrase “conspicuous consumption.” It all goes reasonably haywire, but as an exploration of the weight of the past on our hopes for the future, it’s provocative and sobering. We promise that you’ll never see squirrels in quite the same way again.

I liked Bream's interpretation of David's and Bathsheba's loss of their first born son, and of David's broken heartedness. That he would go to Bathsheba, again, and for Solomon to be born of that (re)union....given the name that means "Peace." God Bless, Bathsheba, in that she made sure Solomon would "find his way to the throne" (p 132). Elizabeth and Mary - Bream explained their relationship in a way that I had not gone deep enough to understand, before. The mother-daughter bond may be incredibly rewarding while also posing a plethora of challenges. We've selected these novels because we believe that no other love compares to a mother's, and we believe that they capture the whole range of feelings that exist between a mother and daughter. Our best recommendations for books about mother-daughter relationships cover everything from love to grief to envy and everything in between. Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreightAndie slammed the car door. "You know what I'd like for Christmas, Flo? Boundaries. You can gift me early if you'd like.” This is a collection of carefully crafted stories based on assumed details that simply are not present in the Biblical text, and in some cases a small inaccuracy in scriptural interpretation is presented as a key point of the chapter. The historical context is often misinterpreted with the lens of modern culture. The sovereignty of God and his purposes are almost entirely ignored such that the reader will very likely fail to give God glory for his work through these people. Study questions at the end of each chapter are self reflection and self help rather than a study of God’s faithfulness and fulfillment of his promises. There are a handful of insightful comments throughout the book (e.g., the parallel between New and Old Testament Josephs), but they are surrounded by too much inaccuracy, misinterpretation, and speculation to be worth reading. The author also convincingly captured the range of emotions and tensions which can arise when a widowed parent begins a new relationship, only to find their happiness threatened by disapproval from adult offspring. Without introducing any spoilers by giving examples, there were moments when I found myself feeling furious with Martha’s controlling, manipulative behaviour as she attempted to derail her mother’s relationship with Ellis! I thought the author did a perfect job of blending all the different personalities and showing how they each reacted to change and personal challenges – as well as focusing on the difficulties that arise when someone wants to reclaim their own life in the face of opposition from others. One example. Here’s a scene we’ve all encountered in some story or another. This is Evan Hunter’s rendition:
