About this deal

Abstract: When thirteen-year-old Twig discovers that he was abandoned at birth by an unknown outsider, he leaves his woodtroll family behind and sets off on a journey through and beyond the dangerous Deepwoods.

He sets off to find his true kind when he learns from his adoptive woodtroll mother that he is not a woodtroll after all, but was found abandoned in the woods and taken in by them. The Far-Flung Adventure series includes the Gold Smarties Prize Winner Fergus Crane, and Corby Flood and Hugo Pepper, both Silver Nestle Prize Winners. The Gloamglozer was in fact the slaughterer who told Twig to leave the camp, the gyle goblin who showed Twig out of the colony, the Flat-Head Goblin who pulled Twig out of the quickmud, and the trog male who helped Twig escape from the trogcombs. Chris Riddell has illustrated many books for children and has been shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal and the Kurt Maschler Award. So imagine my surprise when the characters and creatures were so gruesome, inventive and frankly sometimes scary!

Almost reluctantly, I got it out because, really, I didn't want to be reading young adult books when the crime and gore section was right there, but I decided to settle down and give my dad's pick a chance. When their captain Cloud Wolf, whose real name is Quintinius Verginix, tells a story about his past, Twig realizes that Quintinius is his true father, and wants to join his crew. Paul: The pictures and words take shape simultaneously, each affecting the development of the other. In Midnight over Sanctaphrax, this throwaway idea becomes pivotal to the plot– but we won't give it away just in case you haven't read the book yet! I have read the earlier books in the series dozens of times over the years, and have recently discovered a couple of newer ones that I haven't read, so I will be re-reading the entire series again. Later, Twig almost drowns in a swamp, but is rescued by a flathead goblin who vanishes before Twig can thank him. Scentwood, for instance, burned with a fragrance that sent those who breathed it drifting into a dream-filled sleep, while wood from the silvery-turquoise lullabee tree sang as the flames lapped at its bark — strange mournful songs, they were, and not at all to everyone’s taste.

We take pride in offering a wide selection of used books, from classics to hidden gems, ensuring there? The Banderbear is my favorite and the kid favorite as well (although for my little horror loving son the Gloamglozer was a close second).

I do wish that it hadn't jumped from setting to setting so quickly, but the superb storytelling made up for it by far! They always manage to elevate each and every individual story, bringing the book as a whole to new heights. A childhood favourite of mine that I just re-read for the first time in twenty years and I adore it still! The story moves along at a rate of knots and our hero, the endearing Twig, falls from frying pans into fires with alarming regularity.Beyond the Deepwoods is about the Twig, a young humanoid character on his journey across The Edge, a fantasy world full to the brim with creatures and animals that both terrify and amaze us.
